This webinar will review the basics of pediatric audiology in a manner friendly to parents, educators, and developmental specialists, beginning with the anatomy of the ear and continuing through the methods of screening and assessment for young children. Finally, current options in pediatric rehabilitation and amplification will be discussed. Time will be given to cover attendee questions.

Presenter: Daniel Shearer, a graduate of James Madison University, served as a pediatric audiologist at the A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, where he provided habilitative audiologic care to infant, child, adolescent, and teenage patients in clinics across Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey before joining the Virginia School for the Blind. In addition to his role as the school’s educational audiologist, Dr. Shearer regularly sees infants and children from the surrounding regions for newborn hearing screenings and diagnostic testing through VSDB’s Outreach Program.

Target Audience: Teachers, early intervention providers, early childhood educators, speech-language pathologists, and family member of children with hearing loss.

Participants who complete the follow-up survey will receive a Certificate of Attendance for 1 hour.
