This is a completed event.

Description:

CCSS 2021 Virtual - Registration filled to capacity.

Creating Connections to Shining Stars (CCSS) is a collaborative effort between Virginia's Part C, Early Intervention and Part B, Preschool Special Education programs. The conference will focus on promoting and supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices in inclusive settings for infants, toddlers, and young children, both with and without disabilities.

This year, CCSS will be a virtual one day conference on July 15, 2021, 10:00 am-3:00 pm.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Using Routines-Based Conversations to Engage and Empower Caregivers (Robin McWilliam): The COVID19 pandemic quickly and furiously altered service delivery for all early childhood personnel. Scrambling to figure out how to continue to support infants, toddlers, and other young children receiving early intervention or early childhood special education, practitioners shifted to virtual learning. This provided new and additional opportunities to support families and teachers to embed intervention into everyday activities. Join Dr. Robin McWilliam to learn about his routines-based conversations. Leave inspired to think in routines and empower the important adults in children’s lives to promote developmental skills.

Early Childhood Special Educators: Checkout these TWO hot topic concurrent sessions:

  • The 411 on Considering Assistive Technology in the Preschool Classroom: A Case Study

Presenters will take participants on a journey through the in’s and out’s of considering and assessing assistive technology options for young children with disabilities through the use of storytelling, as they narrate the anecdote of Hugo, a 4-year-old boy who has developmental delays. The case study will focus on this student and his family, and will introduce a framework that his team uses to determine what assistive technology could be put in place to amplify his experiences in his preschool classroom, and potentially change the path of his learning trajectories.

  • EVERYONE can PLAY!

Come learn about the value of play for ALL children. Presenters will address the many aspects of supporting play in an early childhood classroom including the role of the environment and materials, how to incorporate child preferences, and how to support and facilitate adult, child, and peer interactions. Participants will leave with strategies, ideas, and skills that will create a classroom filled with play for ALL learners.
