This collection of resources provides presentations and information about young children’s development and age appropriate skills.

Understanding Age Expectations: Birth to 3 – A guide for Virginia’s Early Childhood Special Educators is a module that reviews typical development for children ages birth to three, connects the user to developmental milestone resources, and offers activities to increase the user’s understanding of the developmental progression of skills while connecting them to the Indicator 7 outcomes. This module can be viewed by an individual to learn more about development of children birth to three, or may be used to provide professional development to team members to learn more about development, particularly if they complete the ratings for Indicator 7 Early Childhood Outcomes. 

 Understanding Age Expectations: Two to Five – A guide for Virginia’s Early Childhood Special Educators is a module that reviews typical development for children ages two to five, connects the user to developmental milestone resources, and offers activities to increase the user’s understanding of the developmental progression of skills while connecting them to the Indicator 7 outcomes. This module can be viewed by an individual to learn more about development of children two to five, or may be used to provide professional development to team members to learn more about development, particularly if they complete the ratings for Indicator 7 Early Childhood Outcomes. 

ECTA Center Videos: Understanding Young Children's Development - These three narrated modules were developed by training personnel in Illinois based on content developed by the University of Connecticut Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. The modules correspond to the three child outcome areas and are focused on identifying age-appropriate skills among children zero to three.

Learn the Signs. Act Early." Milestones in Action Photo and Video Library  (2016) - "Learn the Signs. Act Early" has developed a free library of photos and videos demonstrating developmental milestones from 2 months to 5 years of age. The Milestones in Action library was created to help parents, early care and education providers, and healthcare providers identify developmental milestones in very young children and recognize any areas of concern. No permissions are needed to use the photos and images in this library for educational or awareness-building purposes.

Age-expected Child Development from Birth to Five Years Resource list- This document provides a list of resources providing different kinds of information about age-expected skills and behaviors observed in children from birth to five years.
