This presentation will be an interactive session where participants learn to identify the functions of persistent challenging behaviors through the A-B-C process as an individualized, data driven approach. Participants will be provided a way to analyze problem behavior--defined here as behavior that interferes with learning. When we stand back and examine problems objectively we can then find durable solutions.

Why This Topic?
As hard as teachers work to build the best positive and proactive class management--not to mention high quality, engaging instruction--there are still a few students who have shown persistent problem behaviors and are increasingly disruptive to the learning environment. When this happens, it’s important to understand that every behavior has a function, and once you’ve identified that function, the strategy becomes more apparent.
