Unpacking Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education Services: A Collaborative Model for Inclusive Practices (Online Event)

Learn about or refresh your knowledge of the Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education Service Delivery Model, a model that can transform whole classrooms and help inclusion flourish. Participants will develop a clear understanding of how itinerant service delivery goes beyond direct service provision and more importantly, includes the roles of consultant and coach. Participants will unpack the 5 essential roles of the itinerant teacher and identify how a skilled teacher can work effectively with other adults to find ways to embed IEP based instruction into the child’s daily routine. Attend this event to learn how to become an agent of change in early childhood classrooms and give young children with disabilities the best possible start in school. 

What is the Itinerant Service Delivery Model? Itinerant early childhood special education is a service delivery model that supports the inclusion of young children with disabilities whose placement is a regular early childhood program such as a Virginia Preschool Initiative, Head Start, or a community-based classroom.

What is the Purpose? The purpose of this event is to help administrators learn about the itinerant model by examining the critical roles of the itinerant teacher. Participants will explore a framework for planning for itinerant services, consider how to provide professional development to address the needs of itinerant teachers, and reflect on the quality of current itinerant services.

TARGET AUDIENCE: 

• Administrators & supervisors of itinerant service providers
• Administrators, supervisors, and coordinators of programs who serve young children with disabilities (early learning centers, Head Start, school-based administrators, VPI programs, Title One preschools, community-based providers)

The session is July 13 from 10:00 am -12:00 pm. Participants are invited to participate in a question and answer session from 12:30-1:30.
