Feedback Sought on Additional Draft Guidance on Evaluation and Eligibility Guidance and Eligibility Forms Revisions
In response to the 2020 Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) Special Education study, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is seeking feedback on revisions to Evaluation and Eligibility guidance and eligibility forms. Interested persons are invited to review the draft supplemental guidance and a sampling of eligibility forms. After reviewing the drafts, participants are invited to share feedback by completing a survey and attending an optional overview of feedback and planned revisions meeting. The timeline for these activities is:
- June 7-14, 2021, online review and opportunity to comment on materials; and
- June 16, 2021, from 3 to 4 p.m., optional online meeting to highlight feedback from all participants
Individuals should register to review drafts and access all links from the online materials page. Those who register to participate and provide a valid email address will receive automatic reminders and be provided access to the drafts and optional meeting information.
These draft documents are to be used in conjunction with "Evaluation and Eligibility For Special Education and Related Services: Guidance Document" and "Guidance on Evaluation and Eligibility for the Special Education Process Appendix A," both of which can be found on the VDOE website here:https://www.doe.virginia.gov/special_ed/evaluation-and-eligibility/index.shtml. The VDOE staff look forward to receiving feedback as they seek to improve guidance for school divisions on evaluation and eligibility practices in Virginia.
