Webinar: Relationships First- Shifting our Mindset from Control to Engagement- Part 1

This is a completed event.

Description:

Have you ever said/thought/wondered "If he would just do what I asked or "(fill in the blank)" we wouldn't have this problem!?!?"

Please join us for an hour-long webinar about the factors that underlie behaviors that are OFTEN missed by the adults in children's lives. During this webinar we will learn the underpinnings of challenging behavior from a neuroscience perspective. Dr. Delahooke will be referencing her book, Social and Emotional Development in Early Intervention:  A Skills Guide for Working with Children.  All local systems have a copy of the book - contact your Local System Manager if you want to borrow your system's copy!

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Mona Delahooke, Ph.D.

Mona is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 20 years of experience caring for young children and their families. With a special focus on early childhood development, she is a senior faculty member and Mental Health Working Group Co-Chair of the Profectum Foundation, an organization dedicated to advancing the development of neurodiverse children, adolescents and adults.

Dr. Delahooke uses a strength based, family centered, multidisciplinary approach in her work with young children and families. Her philosophy is informed by the groundbreaking model of child development pioneered by Dr. Stanley Greenspan and Dr. Serena Wieder, known as the DIR® approach (Developmental, Individual-difference, Relationship-based).

By supporting the parent-child relationship more fully as a rich resource in therapeutic intervention, this approach has transformed the world of early intervention. Parents and professionals gain the strongest developmental roadmap possible by understanding how each child's unique, individual differences can guide treatment while cultivating joy in the parent-child relationship.

This session will be moderated by Leah Davidson, Local System Manager from Arlington.  Leah is passionate about infant mental health, and has a background in infant mental health, too. She has been working in early intervention for 9 years and is very excited about the bridge that is being built between infant mental health and early intervention.
