LEADS Contact Update
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is updating contact information for school division leaders responsible for the administrative oversight of local Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) programs.
Leadership in Effective And Developmentally-appropriate Services (LEADS) in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) is an initiative in the Commonwealth of Virginia designed to create and support a network of school division leaders responsible for administrative oversight of local ECSE programs. Since each division is different, this may include directors, coordinators, specialists, lead teachers, or others serving in this capacity.
The purpose of LEADS is to deliver targeted technical assistance to improve ECSE programs for preschool children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). As part of the LEADS network, ECSE administrators are invited to attend two statewide institutes annually, held in the spring and fall, and to access the resources on the LEADS website. The goals of LEADS are to:
- Connect, support, and empower local leaders to build capacity and provide high-quality programs and services throughout the Commonwealth for young children, ages 2-5 years, with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs);
- Improve the collection, reporting, and use of ECSE Indicator data;
- Identify and celebrate strong program components, and;
- Identify program components in need of improvement through use of state and local data.
Your assistance is needed to identify individuals that provide administrative oversight to ECSE programs, including their names, email address, and phone number. If this individual has changed in your division, please update as necessary. This information is requested to be added to the LEADS Contact Update List by September 15, 2019.
Questions should be emailed to Dawn Hendricks, Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator, or she may be reached by phone at (804) 225-2675.
